RAY DEACON

RAY " RJ" DEACON

Long before he would run for his first election , Ray "R.J" Deacon learned from his Grandmother and Mom about the American Dream. They didn’t have much: RJ and his grandmother in a small wood-framed house in Greenville, Virginia. His grandmother Elva Eggleston worked as a seamstress and babysitter ; His mother Barbara as a farmer, bus driver, and housekeeper — as many jobs as it took to get by.

“NEVER GIVE UP" they taught him. “Have faith and trust God”. “Treat others as you want to be treated.” “Be proud of who you are and where you came from!”

In America, these were the building blocks of a successful life.

RJ, took his first job at 15 as a custodian and worked hard in high school. Became the first in his family to go to college, working at an on campus bookstore, to pay his way through college.

From growing up on a farm, RJ knew that paying attention and respecting his surroundings and environment was important. Throughout his life he has always encouraged that we take care of what God has given to us.

RJ and his husband Jason of 20 years and their 3 dogs and one cat, have lived here in Duval county for the past 4 years. He knows that here in Duval County and Florida, our environment is our greatest treasure and our most important economic engine. Florida’s natural beauty, beautiful beaches, and clean air and water fuel our tourism-based economy. So we have to take care of it now!!
